Super Lemon Haze: The Award Winning Strain

A cup filled with lemon and cannabis

If you take a look at the New Frontier Data newest research about marijuana, you’ll see it is estimated that legal sales of cannabis will reach approximately $30 billion by 2025.

That being said, it is completely expected that people will try to join in this lucrative industry and think of ways how to create an original product.

A proven way to create something good is mixing two types of marijuana strains to create a hybrid.

Hybrids often exceed their “parent” strains in quality of different features: appearance, taste, smell, etc. That’s because growers spend time testing and innovating their cultivation practices, until they are able to produce desired cannabis features.

Cannabis is usually categorized as either predominantly Sativa or Indica. Sativa affects our mind in a way that plays more on our emotions, while Indica has a stronger impact on our body. That’s why it is commonly used to relieve pain, increase relaxation, etc.

There is also a third category, besides Sativa and Indica, and we already mentioned it as the hybrid. It is a mixture of Sativa and Indica which is supposed to have the best “genes” of both parents. Ideally it will help us achieve relaxation and at the same time provide us with a dose of energy we need.

There are a lot of strains out there, but today we chose one that most of us could use during bleak winter days – the Super Lemon Haze.

What is Super Lemon Haze exactly?

The developer of this strain is Green House Seeds from the Netherlands. They mixed two popular cannabis plants, Super Lemon Skunk and Super Silver Haze, and got a worthy successor that will continue the popularity of its “parents.”

The Super Lemon Haze is 70% Sativa, and 30% Indica. It is one of the most popular strains, and there is a huge reason for that. It won numerous awards, always ending up on the first or second place:

  • First place at High Times Cannabis Cup in 2008
  • First place at High Times Cannabis Cup in 2009
  • Second place at High Times Cannabis Cup in 2010
  • First place at IC 420 Growers Cup in 2010
  • First place at Seattle Medical Cup in 2012
  • Second Place at ExpoGrow in 2012
  • First place at ExpoGrow in 2013

All those awards can tell us just one thing – this is not an ordinary strain.

Sweet but zesty at the same time

As its name suggests, this strain has a citrusy scent and taste. If you ever tried Lemonheads candy, that’s more or less the taste you can expect. Lemony sweetness combined with a subtle but spicy taste is what makes Super Lemon Haze so unique.

As far as its appearance, since it is mainly Sativa, it can have an odd shape with wide branches. If you plant it indoors, it will be a medium-tall plant, but if it grows outdoors, it can be very tall.

Its flowering time is average, somewhere between nine to ten weeks, and the harvest is in October (if it’s grown outdoors).

It is not hard to manage since this strain is pretty resistant to diseases and it will often result in a massive yield.

The only thing you have to be careful about is the climate. Super Lemon Haze likes tropical, Mediterranean temperatures. If you live where it’s cold, growing indoors is the only option for you.

Medical benefits of Super Lemon Haze

Numerous studies of the past few decades have proven that marijuana has many benefits for our health. It affects our brain, releases the pain and can do much more for us if we consume it rationally.

THC and CBD

We classify marijuana plants and their medical benefits according to their Tetrahydrocannabinol and Cannabidiol percentage. THC is the one component that is responsible for our euphoric feeling while CBD has a therapeutic effect.

Generally speaking, strains with a high THC and low CBD ration will make us euphoric, low THC and high CBD strains may help us think more clearly, and the same amount of both will put is in a relatively euphoric state, but still balance our emotions.

Since the percentage of THC is much higher in Super Lemon Haze than the percentage of CBD, we are likely to experience a pleasant euphoric state when using this strain.

Super Lemon Haze ingredients

In order to explain its medical benefits, we will focus on each of the five main components of this lemon-flavored strain separately.

The first one is beta-caryophyllene and it makes up 36% of Super Lemon Haze.

It has a spicy and sweet flavor, but it doesn’t taste like lemons at all. Instead, it’s more like a dash of black pepper and it adds that zesty flavor.

Beta-caryophyllene is actually the main reason why Super Lemon Haze makes you feel more relieved, peaceful and uplifted. It affects the genes that are stress-related and extends the longevity of the organism.

The second ingredient is terpinolene. There is 31% of it in Super Lemon Haze and it’s mostly used to add fragrance and flavor.

It has a very strong citrusy aroma, and largely contributes to this strain’s particular scent and taste. It has a healing affect on us, and makes us feel more energized because it reduces the oxidative stress in our body.

Humulane is next with 19%. It’s also known as alpha caryophyllene and it has pain-relieving effects. It contributes to making the consumer feel positive.

The last two ingredients have almost the same effect as humulene. Ocimene (7%) and myrcene (6%) are here to make you feel good and to relieve any discomfort you may feel.

Are there any negative effects of using Super Lemon Haze?

The five ingredients we mentioned above combined together make Super Lemon Haze one big dose of positive energy and great mood.

That is why it is best to consume it at night when you are at home. It will help you NOT act up on crazy ideas that can come to your mind while you’re feeling euphoric and overjoyed.

WARNING: If you have a low tolerance to THC, you may experience some negative effects of the Super Lemon Haze (or any strain with high THC levels). Some of these effects could be dizziness or anxiety, cotton mouth or dry eyes. These side effects are not uncommon, and even if you experience them, they are not dangerous so you shouldn’t be too worried.

How do I know if Super Lemon Haze is right for me?

If you are looking for something that will affect your mood positively and give you a nice dose of energizing boost, then Super Lemon Haze is for you.

It will help you de-stress, feel rejuvenated, and it will provide you with the optimal balance of adrenaline and calm feeling.
