Cannabis Infused Cosmetics: 5 Easy DIY Recipes

Cannabis cosmetics

Apart from our brain, many of our vital organs, glands and tissues, CB1 and CB2 receptors can also be found in our skin’s mast cells.

When we use topical creams that contain cannabinoids – CBD in particular – we increase the receptiveness of CB1 and CB2 in our skin, because CBD oil naturally raises the levels of endocannabinoids (cannabinoids that are produced by our own bodies).

The main benefit from increasing the endocannabinoid production is that it regulates our immune system, and has an anti-inflammatory effect. Also, CBD oil is a naturally very hydrating ingredient, and therefore it helps to slow down the skin’s aging process.

Although there are already many different CBD products on the market, you can also make your own at home.

Today, we will share five different DIY cannabis-infused cosmetics recipes, so you can expand your beauty routine with some new and effective products.

Cannabis Universal Salve

Let’s start with one universal, multi-purpose salve. You can use it for your body, hands, even face if you have dry skin. It’s great for instant skin relief and soothing effect.

Things you’ll need:

  • 1 to 3 grams of CBD oil
  • 1/2 cup of olive, almond or coconut oil (if you have acne-prone skin, avoid coconut oil and use almond instead)
  • 2 grams or 1/2 tsp liquid sunflower lecithin
  • 1/2 cup of mango, cocoa or shea butter (depending on your personal preferences)
  • 5-8 drops of your favorite essential oil (this is an optional step, if you want to add a specific scent)

Additional things: Small pan and glass jar

How to make the salve:

Choose which oil you want to use as the base (olive, almond or coconut). Add it in a small pan and add cannabis oil along with the sunflower lecithin. Gently heat them until they are completely combined. After that add butter of your choice and wait until it melts and mixes with the rest. Remove from heat and add a few drops of essential oil if you want.

Once you are done, pour everything in a glass jar and shake it well. Put in a refrigerator for 10 minutes, then shake again. Next, put the jar in the freezer for about 20 minutes or more. When it becomes completely firm, it is ready for use.

It will stay solid, but if the temperature in your room is too high, you may want to put it in the refrigerator every once in a while. Since those are all-natural ingredients, be sure to use it within six months.

Cannabis Body Butter

This body butter will smooth your skin’s texture and provide you with a daily dose of hydration.

Things you’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup shea butter
  • 1/2 cup cocoa butter (or mango butter if you prefer the smell)
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1 to 3 grams of CBD oil
  • 1/2 cup of almond, jojoba, or olive oil
  • optional: 10-30 drops of essential oils if you want to add scent

Additional things: Double boiler, jar, mixer

How to make the butter:

Use a double boiler and combine all the ingredients except cannabis and essential oil. Put the mass on the heater and stir until it’s melted and combined, and then add cannabis oil. Wait until it cools a little bit.

Add essential oils if you want and put the boiler in the fridge for about an hour. It has to harden slightly, but you must not leave it in the fridge for too long.

After an hour, take the boiler out and use a mixer to whip the contents. It will take approximately ten minutes, and you will know it’s done when the texture gets fluffy.

Put it in a glass container and place it in the fridge for about 15 minutes. You can keep it at room temperature, but don’t bring it too close to the heater because the oils inside will melt.

Cannabis Facial Cream

We all want to stay youthful for as long as we can and cannabis can help with that. When you combine it with some other ingredients, it will give you just the right dose of nutrients that will help your skin look more radiant, clean and hydrated.

Things you’ll need:

  • 35 ml of argan oil (reduces wrinkles) or rosa damascena oil (for sensitive skin) or jojoba oil (for hydration) — choose according to your skin’s current needs
  • 15 grams of cacao butter
  • 5 grams of shea butter
  • 5 grams of coconut oil
  • 5 drops of carrot seed oil (optional but it is great for uneven skin tone)
  • 10 drops of pure lavender oil (optional – it reduces inflammation)
  • 30 drops of CBD oil

Additional things: Double boiler, glass jar

How to make the facial cream:

Put all ingredients except CBD oil in a double boiler and heat until everything is combined. Add the CBD oil and stir slowly. Pour into the jar and leave at room temperature. Wait for an hour and then put the jar in the freezer. You can keep it in your room or in the freezer, just don’t place it next to heating devices.

Lastly, a piece of advice. Never add essential oils into your face cream. We know it can be tempting to have a nice-smelling cream and enjoy it every morning and night, but essential oils will most likely cause irritations on your face, since they act just like a perfume.

Cannabis Face Scrub

Every once in a while we should treat our skin with a scrub. It will remove the dead cells and improve the quality of the skin. Today we will share with you a simple face scrub recipe, for which you can choose the main ingredient based on your skin type.

Things you’ll need:

  • 1/2 tablespoon of raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon almond or jojoba oil
  • 1 gram of cannabis oil
  • As the base: Baking soda, brown sugar, coffee or oats

First of all, you should choose a base that is the most suitable for your skin. Baking soda is for someone who has extremely oily skin. It has a tendency to dry out, so if you have normal or dry skin, don’t use it.

Brown sugar is also for oily skin or combination. Coffee can be used by people with normal skin, while the oats are extremely gentle and a perfect choice for dry skin.

Once you’ve chosen the base, put a little bit in a bowl and add honey, almond or jojoba oil, and cannabis oil. Use the spatula to mix it all together and that’s it! You have a cannabis facial scrub.

This is an amount for one use. You shouldn’t make a lot of it because it cannot be kept for a long time, like creams or body butter.

Cannabis Lip Balm

We commonly take care of our face and under-eye area, but we forget the lips. They also need extra care, and that’s why we decided to include one recipe for a lip balm. You can choose whether you want to make a tinted one or not.

Things you’ll need:

  • 3 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon of raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon of almond or jojoba oil
  • 2 tablespoons of beeswax pastilles
  • 1 to 3 grams of CBD oil
  • Few drops of any essential oil (optional step if you want to add smell to your lip balm)
  • Liquid food dyes (optional, if you want to add color)

Additional things: Double boiler, small container (or you can use a package of an old lip balm that you have already used)

How to make the lip balm:

Start by melting the coconut oil and beeswax together in a double boiler and remove from heat once it’s combined. Add honey, almond (or jojoba oil) and cannabis oil. If you want to add color or smell to it, take a few drops of food dye and essential oil. Pour that in your container and let it cool in the freezer.

As you can see, making your own cosmetics is easy, fun and cost-effective. You don’t need too many things, and as a result, you will get natural products that work wonders for the skin.
